Reflection
This course focuses on the genres of poetry, drama, the short story, and the novel with an emphasis on the way Americans prefer individual freedom to society’s accepted norms. It covers American literature from the beginnings to 1865.
Objective
- Developing research skills including learning to incorporate research into literary analysis and deepening an understanding of accessing the library catalogue, electronic database and Internet search engines.
- Create a community of learners with classmates and the instructor.
- Develop oral presentation skills by introducing the class to an author, incorporating technology such as PowerPoint, the internet, or other media sources.
- Enhance writing skills, especially in argument, through written papers and tests.
