Learning Ethical and Legal issues related to human services professions. Topics include responsibility, competency, duty to warn, confidentiality, professional relationships, and professional licensing standards and procedures.
Objective
- Become familiar with what it means to be an ethical professional.
- Become familiar with the various mental health profession ethical guidelines.
- Become familiar with the 2014 ACA Code of ethics, 2010 APA Ethical principles of psychologists and code of conduct with 2016 revision, 2016 ASCA Ethical standards for school counselors, and the 2016 Texas Administrative Code: Rules relating to the licensing and regulation of professional counselors.
- Apply various ethical codes and principles to case studies.
- Set up an e-portfolio.
- Gain experience in writing an APA format major term paper on a relevant psychological issue.
