Reflection

This course covers the theories and practices of speech communication behavior in interpersonal, small group and public communication situations.  This course is intended to enhance student understanding of, and ability to use, the basic skills of verbal and nonverbal communication, increased competence and confidence in delivery of presentations, enhanced critical thinking skills and enhanced interpersonal communication skills.   

Objective

  1. Objectives: Understand the importance of specifying audience and purpose in speech communication settings. 
  1. Understand and demonstrate the speaking process through invention, organization, drafting, revision and presentation. 
  1. Develop the ability to research and deliver an oral presentation. 
  1. Understand and appropriately apply modes of expression in oral communication. 
  1. Participate effectively in groups with emphasis on listening, critical and reflective thinking and responding. Understand and apply principles of critical thinking and problem solving in development of exposition argument. 
  1. Understand the importance of culture and ethnic identity in human communication.
